102. Reaching Capacity and Embracing Sea Freight

BITRE (Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics) have released their Yearbook for 2017 which outlines a clear imbalance in the freight supply chain, which has been costing the country billions of dollars per year.

According to the document, Rail has grown 210% in terms of the domestic freight task, as well as Trucking growing consistently 61% over the last decade, while Coastal freight has decreased 1% since 2006.

On the 23rd of January 2018 the TPP-11 (Trans-Pacific Partnership) met in Tokyo, Japan at officials' level, finalising a deal 3 years in the making.

In March officials will sign the Comprehensive and Progression Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, a separate treaty, that allows a limited number of set provisions to be suspended, while still holding the high-standards of the original document.

The Victorian Government has published its aim to raise the annual good export from Victoria to India to $1 billion, doubling it's current value.
In a recent publication titled, 'Victoria's India Strategy: Our Shared Future', which Premier Daniel Andrews released in light of his coming visit to India this week. Due to India's booming economy (currently the third largest) and with over 400 Million Millennials in India, the Victorian Governments has labelled it crucial to have close ties between the two regions.

Both houses of parliament, last week, passed through the updates to the Singapore Australia Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA), which will see a considerable reduction in the harsh current restrictions on Australian exporters. The amendment to the SAFTA is a huge successful for Australia's services industries, which will now have greater access for our education, legal, financial and various professional service sectors.

98. Port Rail Shuttle To Remove Congestion In Melbourne

The Victorian government have recently released their plans to decrease the amount of trucks on local roads and instead increase the capacity of the current rail system. The current proposal of growing a number of rail freight shuttle initiatives on existing rail networks is estimated to cost $58 million, which will be funded by both the Australian and Victorian government.

96. Viterra Sells 4 Million Tonnes Of Capacity Until 2021

9th June, 2017

Cereal, oilseed and pulse supply chain company Viterra has announced the sale of 4 million tonnes of shipping capacity each year until 2021, thanks to the rising certainty in Australian grain. Long Term Agreements for the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons have been put in place to release the shipping capacity for exports this month. The 4 million tonnes capacity has been spread among nine different exporters, committed to exporting grain out of the state in the foreseeable future.

Lines, Ltd., and the Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha joint venture was announced, however it was not until yesterday that the official title was released. When service commencemences on the 1st of April, 2018, the group will trade under the name Ocean Network Express. According to the group's website

In July, this year, The Hon Steven Ciobo, Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, will be going to Lima, Peru for first round negotiations in hopes to acquire a Peru-Australia Free Trade Agreement. As Ciobo pointed in his statement on Wednesday, Peru is one of the fastest growing economies in Latin America with an average GDP growth in the last decade on 5.9%, and Australia's two-way trade with Peru has grown exponentially over the last few years to a worth of $504 million.
